Nothing launches Phone (2a) Special Edition

Nothing launches Phone (2a) Special Edition

Nothing announced the Phone (2a) Special Edition, a story of colour told through its latest smartphone at GITEX Africa.

From its design identity to its collaborative approach with the Nothing community, transparency lives at the brand’s core. The idea is to distil things down to their most basic, yet beautiful form. The Nothing Industrial Design Team in King’s Cross, London has applied this notion to colour to highlight red, yellow and blue for a unique new colourway.

Phone (2a) Special Edition celebrates primary colours and their place within Nothing’s brand identity. The new smartphone is the first time that all three colours have been used in one piece of Nothing hardware. Previously the red has been used in the right earbud of all Nothing audio products, the yellow in the new Ear (a) and most recently blue was revealed in Phone (2a) Blue – but until now, never have all three colours lived in one home.

“We are very happy to unveil Phone (2a) Special Edition. The first product to explore our palette of the primary colours; red, blue and yellow. Its overall aesthetic references some of our design heroes from the past, whilst creating a new expression for a smartphone. Elevating a functional device into a striking piece of art.” said Design Director at Nothing, Adam Bates.

The Special Edition builds on everything the Phone (2a) was praised for at launch. It features impressive performance driven by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor, a fast and smooth Nothing OS, and a long-lasting 5,000 mAh battery. The device boasts a 6.7” flexible AMOLED display, an impressive dual 50 MP rear camera, and showcases Nothing’s unique design through its hardware and The Glyph Interface.

Phone (2a) brought excitement to the market, selling 100,000 units in a matter of hours. Since launch, the Nothing software team has rolled out 13 updates to fine-tune camera performance, including optimising colour consistency in the main wide-angle sensor, improving portrait brightness in HDR scenes and smoothening camera app opening performance.

Phone (2a), and its predecessors, offer industry-first ChatGPT integration when paired with any Nothing or CMF by Nothing audio product. Additionally, new ChatGPT widgets have been introduced for fast and easy access from your smartphone home screen. Earlier this month, Nothing announced that Phone (2a) users can now access the Android 15 Developer Preview.
