Aramco and solutions by stc launch next-gen supercomputer

Aramco and solutions by stc are launching a $372.5 million (SAR 1.4 bn) initiative to deploy a next‑generation supercomputer, marking the largest computing infrastructure investment in Aramco’s history and a major acceleration of its digital transformation strategy. The collaboration is designed to dramaticallystrengthen Aramco’s Upstream computing capabilities, positioning the company at the forefront of advanced seismic processing and reservoir simulation in the global energy sector.

The new supercomputer will serve as a foundational engine for Aramco’s Upstream operations, enabling high‑speed seismic data processing, large‑scale reservoir modeling, and more accurate forecasting across exploration and production workflows. Purpose‑built to handle massive data volumes with exceptional precision, the system will deliver seven times more compute capacity than Aramco’s current Upstream environment. This leap in performance is expected to redefine the speed and accuracy of hydrocarbon discovery and recovery, maximize output from existing fields across Saudi Arabia, and extend reservoir longevity through more informed decision‑making.

Abdul Hameed A. Al‑Dughaither, Aramco Executive Vice President of EXPEC & Drilling, said the deployment represents a pivotal moment in the company’s digital evolution. “Aramco’s digital evolution is redefining what is possible for hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir management. With this next‑generation supercomputer, being deployed through our strategic collaboration with solutions by stc, we aim to set a new standard in computational excellence. This milestone underscores our focus on harnessing advanced technologies to drive performance by unlocking new reserves, optimizing recovery rates, and identifying new ways to capture value.”

Omer Alnomany, Chief Executive Officer of solutions by stc, highlighted the project’s national significance. “This collaboration represents a strategic step toward empowering the energy sector by leveraging the latest high‑performance computing capabilities. It supports the acceleration of seismic data processing and improves the efficiency of exploration and production operations.”

Built with technologies from global supercomputing leaders, the system will support seismic interpretation and reservoir modelling at an unprecedented scale. solutions by stc will deploy the infrastructure, provide software support, and deliver managed services. Scheduled for delivery by early 2027, the supercomputer is expected to become a cornerstone of Aramco’s digital leadership and reinforce its position as one of the world’s most reliable energy providers.
