Anthropic Launches Fastest and Most Affordable Claude Haiku Model

Anthropic Launches Fastest and Most Affordable Claude Haiku Model

Anthropic has introduced Claude Haiku 5.5, calling it the company’s fastest, most capable, and most affordable small AI model to date. Built for high-volume and cost-sensitive workloads, the new model is designed to help enterprises scale AI adoption across a wide range of applications, including summarization, database queries, classification, browser use, customer support, and software development.

According to Anthropic, Claude Haiku 5.5 delivers significant performance improvements while substantially reducing operating costs compared with its predecessor, Claude Haiku 4.5. The company said the new model costs approximately 75% less to run on average, enabling organizations to deploy AI capabilities at scale while maintaining greater cost efficiency. This positions the model as an attractive option for businesses seeking to automate routine processes and accelerate digital transformation initiatives.

A key addition to the Haiku family is an adjustable effort setting, allowing users to optimize for either speed and cost or enhanced intelligence, depending on the complexity of the task. Anthropic said the feature provides greater flexibility, making Claude Haiku 5.5 suitable for everything from routine operational workloads to more advanced reasoning and analysis tasks.

Performance benchmarks released by the company show notable gains across knowledge work, computer use, reasoning, coding, and visual analysis. Claude Haiku 5.5 outperformed Claude Haiku 4.5 across multiple industry benchmarks and demonstrated stronger capabilities in professional knowledge tasks, agentic coding, and AI-assisted workflows. Anthropic also highlighted the model’s ability to serve as an efficient subagent alongside larger models such as Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Opus 5.5.

Several organizations that participated in early testing reported positive results. Anthropic cited feedback from Asana, HubSpot, AlphaSense, Box, Rogo, and Cognition, with users reporting faster response times, improved accuracy, reduced latency, and lower operational costs. These benefits are expected to support broader adoption of AI-powered applications in enterprise environments.

Alongside the launch, Anthropic announced additional pricing changes across its AI portfolio. The company reduced cache-read pricing for Claude Sonnet 5.5 by 50%, a move expected to lower the cost of many agentic AI workloads by around 20%. It is also introducing monthly API credits for Claude Max and Team subscribers to encourage developers to build new applications and AI agents on the Claude platform.

Claude Haiku 5.5 is available immediately through the Claude platform and major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Anthropic believes the model will help drive the next phase of enterprise AI adoption by combining advanced capabilities, affordability, and speed in a compact, production-ready model.
