Sony releases Camera Remote Toolkit firmware updates

Sony announces today a new version (Version 1.13) of the existing software development kit “Camera Remote SDK”, available as of October 16th. Camera Remote SDK is part of Sony’s ongoing aim to build a powerful remote camera ecosystem, allowing users from all fields and industries to access and control Sony cameras remotely.

This Camera Remote SDK update brings new compatible cameras alongside Absolute Position Settings for optical zoom. In addition, Sony announced the availability of a new version (Version 2024.1.0) of the Camera Remote Command list on October 16th bringing more compatible models and PTP-IP support.

Camera Remote SDK- Version 1.13
Version 1.13 and further versions will support the following features:

1. Additional compatible camerasZV-E10 II, PXW-Z200, HXR-NX800
2. Absolute Position Settings for optical zoom: this makes it possible to move the zoom to a desired position with a single command prompt, for a substantive time gain.
3. Remote emulation. which allows users to remotely receive display information from the camera including On-screen display. This provides the level of remote-control equivalent to a non-remote manipulation.
4. Exposure Notification Timing Adjustment: This provides an exposure signal in advance of shooting still image, allowing creators looking for advanced synchronization scenario with flash lighting.
5. New features to improve the video recording workflow
Background File Transfer: Remote control and file transfer can be performed simultaneously in order to maximise the efficiency of any remote production.
Recorded Video Preview: Without transferring the video file to a computer, users can review any section of the video remotely.
6. Remote Firmware Update: Users can now update the camera’s firmware remotely within user application. In the future, when a new firmware for the camera is provided by Sony, it can be applied without disassembling the system. 

Camera Remote Command – Version 2024.1.0
Version 2024.1.0 and further versions will support the following features:

  1. Addition of compatible models : FX6, BURANO,α9 III, ZV-E10 II
  2. PTP-IP Support : this allows users and developers to control their Sony camera via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi, thus eliminating the need for a USB cable and improving flexibility in terms of shooting positions and angles
  3. Newly supports more than 100 new commands, including switching the memory card slot according to the situation, for both still images and video recording, and adjusting the upper and lower limits of ISO AUTO to the shooting environment requirements.
