Cohesity Achieves HashiCorp Validation for Cloud Recovery

Cohesity has announced that HashiCorp, an IBM company, has validated the interoperability of Cohesity Data Cloud’s cloud rebuild capabilities with Terraform Self-Managed, enabling organizations to rapidly recover cloud applications following destructive cyberattacks. The integration combines infrastructure-as-code recovery with data restoration, allowing businesses to rebuild cloud environments and restore critical application data to a trusted state.

The announcement addresses a growing challenge facing enterprises as AI-driven cyberattacks become more sophisticated and destructive. According to Cohesity’s 2026 Global Cyber Resilience Report, 91% of surveyed organizations in the UAE believe their recovery plans require moderate or significant changes to withstand AI-powered attacks, while only 1% consider their plans ready today.

Traditionally, organizations recovering from cloud-based attacks often rely on manual rebuilding processes or fragmented recovery tools. Cohesity’s cloud rebuild solution takes a different approach by leveraging an organization’s existing Terraform infrastructure-as-code files as the blueprint for recovery. Terraform recreates the declared infrastructure and configuration, while Cohesity Data Cloud restores the latest usable backup of application data.

This approach ensures organizations recover to an approved and trusted configuration rather than restoring compromised environments that may contain attacker modifications. By combining infrastructure restoration with data recovery, businesses can accelerate recovery times and improve overall cyber resilience.

Cohesity cloud rebuild can read applications through Terraform’s official interface and execute customers’ code without modification, helping maintain configuration accuracy and compliance. The solution also integrates with existing incident response and recovery workflows, reducing operational complexity during a crisis.

“Attackers using AI move faster than any team can rebuild by hand,” said Vasu Murthy, Chief Product Officer at Cohesity. “Organizations have already codified exactly what their cloud environments should look like in Terraform. Cohesity uses that code to recreate the declared configuration and then restores the latest usable application data from backup.”

Tyler Lynch, Outbound CTO, Automation, IBM Software, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting that customers increasingly seek recovery capabilities that leverage Terraform state for rebuilding not only infrastructure but also applications and data after an attack.

Available as part of Cohesity Data Cloud Enterprise Edition, cloud rebuild offers organizations a more automated and reliable path to cyber recovery, helping bridge a critical gap between cloud infrastructure restoration and data protection in an increasingly AI-driven threat landscape.
